The position of Associate Planner is the entry-level position within Avalon Engineering with opportunity for advancement.

Functions

• Reviews or assists in the review of moderately difficult development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans, and regulations
• Prepares submittal packages with planning analysis to government bodies
• Assists in rezonings, ordinance amendments, site plans, special use permits, and variances.
• Coordinates preparation of public and private development projects and resubmittals
• Provides information to the developers and the public regarding development regulations
• Oversee the work of consultants and support staff
• Attends a substantial number of evening and weekend meetings
• Presents projects to County and City Boards

Knowledge

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning and research and data collection
• Knowledge of effective writing techniques
• Knowledge of computer programs and applications, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, and database management
• Knowledge of GIS programs and applications

Skills

• Oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain regulations, rules and procedures clearly
• Ability to review Engineering & Architectural plans and apply ordinances regulations and codes to determine compliance
• Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment as needed
• Ability to facilitate in-person and virtual public participation activities
• Ability to interpret the zoning and land use regulations for projects and to respond to questions
• Ability to be adaptable to perform under deadlines

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture, public policy, or a related area of study in addition to one year of planning experience. Ability to become a Certified Planner within 3 years after employment.

Construction Field Inspector

Job Description
Avalon Engineering, Inc in SW Florida is seeking an experienced Construction Field Inspector to work on multiple projects ranging in size from small-scale to large-scale, including airport facilities, single-family subdivisions, multi-family complexes, commercial sites, roadways and streets, fire stations and other municipal projects. The right candidate will have a working knowledge of horizontal site construction and experience in paving, grading, and drainage construction. A background in utility installations (potable water, gravity and forced sewer and irrigation distribution) is also preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct on-site field inspections for projects to ensure conformance with contract documents.
• Oversees compliance with the requirements of permits or approvals granted for construction.
• Verify shop drawings provided by contractor match the approved construction plans.
• Write field inspection reports to document project construction status and schedule.
• Maintain records of work changes and assist in preparation of "as built" drawings.
• Coordinate with permitting agencies for inspections and certifications of compliance.
• Meet with Engineer of Record regularly to update status of all construction projects.

Requirements:
• H.S. Diploma
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a field inspector or an Associate degree in Construction Technology at an accredited college or trade school with 2 years’ experience as a field inspector.
• An understanding of all aspects in the field of civil engineering.
• Self-motivated, and able to work both individually and as a dedicated team member.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain good working relationships with contractors and regulatory agencies.
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid Florida driver’s license required.
